NCCC MWR Events

COM is a member of the National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC). As a member we are in the Midwest Region (MWR). Other clubs also host Rallyes, Concours Events and Autocross Events. Many of our member travel and run in the MWR points series by attending any number of these events in our region.

PLEASE NOTE
For 2024, our NCCC insurance allows hybrids but not EVs at our autocross events. Check with the eventmaster for possible changes to this restriction.

PLEASE NOTE
Non-NCCC members are not covered by NCCC insurance. This includes all of our COM events. Become a member and be covered at any of our local, regional and national NCCC events.

NCCC HIGH SPEED EVENTS
NCCC will require roll bars in C-8 Convertibles for High Speed autocross events. Would imply for high speed Driver’s Schools too, that are NCCC sanctioned and insured.

COM Cruises

This year COM will be hosting two cruises. These are open to Club members and others, and no restrictions on the make of vehicles. Each will start near a McDonald’s, include interesting stops, and end at a bar/restaurant near the starting location. Routes will be roughly 100-120 miles, and each will last about 4 hours, including the stops at destinations along the way. We are asking for a $5 per car donation to cover costs of route set-up and printing. Participants will sign waivers and get Route Directions at the start. COM Summer Cruise - Saturday, July 27

Cruise to St. Cloud area, and Munsinger Gardens

July 27, 2024 – Saturday

We’re planning a combined Summer Cruise and Picnic for July 27. Here’s the pertinent information. We hope you’ll be able to join us. This is open to everyone–club members and families, plus any others who want to attend. We’re asking for a $5 donation per vehicle to cover the cost of printing and checking out the route.

1-Sign Waivers and receive Route Instructions at 9:30 am, and leave from the Fridley McDonald’s at 286 57th Ave. NE in Fridley (just NW of the University and 694 interchange, off University Ave.) around 10:00. Arrive before 9:30 if you want to have coffee or breakfast inside.

2-Caravan to St. Cloud, and the Munsinger and Clemens Gardens, on the east shore of the Mississippi (just west of the St. Cloud Minnesota Department of Corrections Facility). The Gardens started around 1915, and were developed as an FDR WPA project in 1930’s. There are around 20 acres total, with lots of beautiful walks, ponds, thousands of flowers including rose gardens, etc., tables to sit and rest, and a couple of buildings. Lots of great photo ops. Free admission, and plenty of on-street free parking adjacent to the Gardens. An estimated 350,000 visitors come to the Gardens each year. We’ll spend an hour or a bit more. Leave around noon. Note-I’ve been there, and in the summer this should be a beautiful spot!

3-Then a quick stop at a Lincoln General Stop Deli and Grill about 6 blocks away, in a Casey’s Station for those who want to pick up food for the picnic stop, or bring your own.. From there, about a 5 minute drive down Hwy 10 to the Minnesota Welcome Center, very close to the Minnesota. Highway Safety Center. Back in our NCCC event days at St. Cloud, we went there once for post-event pizza. Lots of parking, rest rooms, picnic tables, plus brochures for places to visit in Minnesota, etc. We’ll have a club and friends picnic at this location, and relax for an hour or so. Again free parking, and no cost for the facility.

4-We’ll plan to leave around 1:00, and for those interested make a stop at the Ellingson Motorcars Museum in Rogers. They have about 100 classic cars and some memorabilia in what many years ago was the Ellingson Car Museum. Now it’s a combination of their own cars, and some consignment cars, with primarily classic and muscle cars. Cost of visiting there and seeing the cars inside is listed at $10 for adults. Times listed on their sites are 10:00 am to 4:00. Plan to spend an hour or so there. This could be an option for those who wish to see the facility, and will pay the fee.

5-From there, return via I-94 to Twin Cities on your own.

For those who want to gather after the Cruise, we’ll go to the Applebee’s in Fridley, just off Central Ave. (MN 65), just south of I-694.

COM Fall Color Cruise - Saturday, October 19

Saturday, October 19, 2024

ur Fall Cruise will start at the McDonald’s in Cottage Grove, at 7355 Point Douglas Rd., Cottage Grove, Mn. This is north-east of US 10 and US 61, and south of 80th Street in Cottage Grove, very close to a Hy-Vee Grocery Store. The Cruise is open to all without a requirement for Club membership, and also open to all vehicles. We’re asking for a $5 per vehicle donation to help cover expenses of checking the route, and printing costs for the flyers and Route Instructions. You can sign waiver forms any time after 9:00 am (not pre-registration required), with an entrants’ meeting at 9:45, and with departure at 10:00 am.

We’ll pass through Hastings, take a scenic route to Red Wing, and then take several scenic drives through the bluff country above the Mississippi River. The Fall colors should be bright on these country roads. Our destination is the Lark Toy Store in Kellogg, Minnesota. This is recognized as one of the Top 10 Toy Stores in the world! The Lark family has produced wood and metal toys for decades, and the Toy Store features a huge Toy Museum with hundreds of toys from your childhood. The store also has thousands of modern toys and hundreds of puzzles for sale. For a small fee, they also have an outdoor 18-hole miniature golf course complete with waterfalls, a beautiful hand-carved carousel to ride, and a complete food court with various sandwiches and treats available, and even llamas out back to watch.

We’ll return via US 61 through many small river towns on the Mississippi, and hope to see some bald eagles flying over the river. The nationally known Raptor Center is nearby, and several scenic overlooks are along the river. For those interested, we’ll have a stop at King’s Place Bar and Grille in Meisville, home of dozens of fantastic burgers and other meals. From Meisvilloe, a 10-minute drive will return you to Hastings, where you can select you route home by way of Hwy 55 to the southern suburbs and Minneapolis, or US 61 to I-494 and I-94.

We hope you’ll be able to join us for the Fall COM Color Cruise. Please let any family members or friends know as well.
